Bengaluru Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar on Saturday denied permission to a New Year bash in the city where Sunny Leone has been invited to perform, reportedly to "maintain law and order" and prevent any "untoward incident", IANS reported. The report further quoted Kumar as he said at a press conference, "We are denying permission for the Sunny Leone's musical show on December 31 night to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident in the city."
The decision to deny permission came a day after about 100 activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had demonstrated on Friday against her presence in the show. The Commissioner further said that the organizers have not even applied for the police permission and have started selling tickets online already. Deliberating on their decision, the report further quoted Kumar, “In view of a directive from the Karnataka High Court on Friday to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations and prevent untoward incidents in the city, we will not be able to deploy enough force at one place at the risk of other areas.”
IANS further reported that Kumar said, "As the Bollywood star is popular and has a huge following, as evident from a massive gathering at Kochi (in Kerala) on her recent visit (in August), we have decided not to permit her to perform in the city on the New Year eve.”

Sunny Leone has successfully marked her space in Bollywood and has undoubtedly come a long way. However, her struggle for acceptance in India is far from over. Recently, the actress faced protest against her participation in a New Year event at Bengaluru.
Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene protested on Friday in front of the Manyata Tech Park against Bollywood actress Sunny’s performance at the event. According to reports, the protesters not only burnt her posters but condemned her programmes as an assault on Karnataka's culture. They also reportedly threatened to commit mass suicide if she is allowed to perform on the stage at the event.
Harish, state president, KRV Yuva Sene also reportedly added that they wouldn’t mind if she wears a sari and performs. The report also quoted a senior police official who said that they are currently awaiting the directions from the government. However, Home Minister and other senior officials are reportedly of the opinion that the actress should not be given permission to perform at the event.

Sunny Leone, who is a brand ambassador for a condom manufacturer in India, is in the eye of another storm for featuring in a Navratri-themed condom advertisement in Gujarat. On Tuesday, 19th September, authorities tore down dozens of billboards after a slew of complaints about an advertisement featuring the former adult star promoting the use of condoms ahead of the festival of Navratri. Local authorities in Gujarat, removed the advertisements as controversy mounted.
The image of Leone, advertising contraceptives ahead of the religious celebration proved to be too much for some in the state. Although the advertisement features no image of a condom, it stoked outrage for its slogan, "Play with love this Navratri".
In a written complaint, the Confederation of All India Traders accused the condom manufacturer behind the risque ad of taking marketing "to an all-time low".
